about

The initial song written by Lara de Belder in the first UK lockdown of 2020, Overtime fuses pop, hip hop and dance music with elements of jazz, blues and close harmony vocals.
Starting with the bass line, the aim was to create a dreamy yet punchy swagger to mimic the feeling of being overwhelmed by an attraction to someone.
'The idea I have in my head is being at a house party full of people but they all sort of blur away as you can't stop fixating on this one person who seems to have this incredible magnetic effect on you.'
Working with pop producers James Cunningham & Matteo Depares, Lara's jazzy ideas were merged with commercial pop/dance elements to create the hypnotic and quirky world of Overtime.

lyrics

Oh no
Gone and lost my heart again, I'm steppin' in it
I don't know how to start again, but I'll begin it
Playin' out a part again, but will I stick it? Oh no
And though I fantasise
Nothing's as good as when I meet your eyes
Somethin' about you makes me come alive
Hit the spin cycle around and round and round
Now you're comin' over
Over, over again
(Do do do ba dow)
Ohh, well come on then

Come on and put your hands out, baby
Come and tell me all the things I already know
Don't even think about it, baby
You're workin' overtime and do do do ba dow
Come on and turn around now, baby
Let me pull you in and show you everything I know
I know you think about me, baby
We're workin' overtime and do do do ba dow, yeah
Do do do ba dow

Oh no
Now we step apart, my heart can slow the beating
Dizzy in the head and babe I'm barely breathing
Are you unaware or do you love this teasing? Oh no
And though I leave your side
I'm tangled up, you got me hypnotised
Too damn easy to be compromised
Swept up in your tide, around and round and round
Now you're comin' over
Over, over again
(Do do do ba dow)
Ohh, well come on then

Come on and put your hands out, baby
Come and tell me all the things I already know
Don't even think about it, baby
You're workin' overtime and do do do ba dow
Come on and turn around now, baby
(Turn around now, babe)
Let me pull you in and show you everything I know
I know you think about me, baby
We're workin' overtime and do do do ba dow now baby

(Over)
And I like what you say and you know how to say it
(Over)
And I like how you move and you know how to move it
(Over)
And I know what to do, so come on, let me do it
(Over)
(You're workin' overtime now)
You got me spinnin' around and around and around and around, yeah
Ooh
(Do do do ba dow)
(Haaa)

Come on and put your hands out, baby
Come and tell me all the things I already know
(Tell me everything)
Don't even think about it, baby
(Don't even think about it, baby)
You're workin' overtime and do do do ba dow
Come on and turn around now, baby
Let me pull you in and show you everything I know
(I'll show you everything)
I know you think about me, baby
We're workin' overtime and do do do ba dow now baby
(Oh, oh yeah, yeah)
Hoo we're workin' overtime
(Heyyy, yeah yeah yeah)
Hey hey, yeah
